Covid-19 has brought unprecedented challenges for individuals, families and communities across the globe. Widespread full-time working from home, feelings of loneliness and isolation, bereavement and loss can all have an impact on our mental health and wellbeing.

Under these circumstances, and as we look beyond the pandemic, how do we support those experiencing mental illness or mental health difficulties, promote good mental wellbeing across different groups and communities, and embed a whole-system approach to mental health and wellbeing? How can we deliver effective mental health support online or with a blended approach, and ensure that those who need help are able to get it?

The race for the Covid-19 vaccine is a story of innovation and collaboration between the life science industry and its research and health service partners. Shared ambition and aligned incentives have enabled health systems and the life sciences industry to work collaboratively in developing vaccines and therapeutics that will bring the pandemic to an end. Looking at this paradigm shift, which offers the opportunity for permanent and beneficial change in the long term, how do we create partnerships and linkages between industry and the scientific community to respond to mental health and wellbeing needs post-Covid? How do we drive international collaborations and changes in mental health practice to benefit local communities, health and care providers, commissioners and a wide range of regional and national stakeholders in a post-pandemic environment?

Why should you attend?
This event is a unique opportunity to hear from leading sector experts and practitioners about the latest developments in supporting mental health and wellbeing and to learn about emerging best practices as showcased through collaborations between industry and academia. Drawing upon shared experiences, we aim to encourage partnerships between the UK and our host countries, including Austria, France and Switzerland.

This event will be held online and alongside informative content from the most pertinent speakers on the topic, we will also be facilitating opportunities to discuss and make connections with key stakeholders in the sector.

Organised as a joint initiative between the UK’s Department for International Trade in Austria, France and Switzerland, as well as the UK Science & Innovation Network, we will provide guidance to participants on how they can access our services.

Who should attend?
This event will be useful for UK businesses looking to expand their global reach, international investors with ambitions to access the UK market, care providers such as hospitals, clinics and elderly homes, health insurance companies, industry associations, academics engaged in health research, and policy makers in the area of healthcare and life sciences. This virtual event will also be tailored to respond to the unique challenges that have emerged as a result of Covid-19.

Health apps as well as a blend of digital and formal solutions will have a critical role to play in managing the mental health impacts of the pandemic. A recent publication by the University of Cambridge revealed that demand for digital mental health support has risen, and that the nature of this demand has also changed since COVID-19, with an apparent increased presentation of anxiety and loneliness. By using data and scientific evidence, this session will put a spotlight on three leading companies from Austria, France and Switzerland who have developed commercial solutions to tackle some of the most common mental health issues, including stress and anxiety, depression and insomnia.
